The People’s Republic of China is set to join the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), with no obstacles remaining. After submitting its application in May, China completed a six-month probationary period, marking the final step before formal ratification by the Chinese government. Once ratified—within a year—China will become the 51st member of the OIV. During this interim period, China can already participate in all OIV activities.
Expanding OIV's global vineyard representation
China holds the position of the world’s third-largest vineyard area and is the leading producer of table grapes. In terms of wine consumption, it ranks eighth globally. With China's membership, the OIV will represent nearly 85% of the world’s total vineyard area. The most recent member to join was Albania in August 2023. MS
