On the occasion of the upcoming Austrian Sparkling Wine Day on October 21 (Germany: May 10), the Austrian Wine Marketing Board (ÖWM) and the Austrian Sparkling Wine Committee announced positive figures for the sparkling wine market in Austria. According to market researcher Nielsen AC, sales of sparkling wines have increased by 15.6% over the past three years. "Sparkling wine remains the fastest-growing category in the wine sector, both internationally and in Austria, with particular growth in sparkling wine over recent years," said Benedikt Zacherl, chairman of the Austrian Sparkling Wine Committee. The number of producers is also developing positively, with the association currently counting around 250 producers.
Andreas Vitasek becomes Sparkling Wine Ambassador
At the same time, the association announced the new sparkling wine ambassador, who will spend the next year promoting "effervescent enjoyment with red-white-red origins." The Viennese actor, cabaret artist, director, and artistic director Andreas Vitasek will take over the role of Sparkling Wine Austria ambassador from Annemarie Foidl, president of the Sommelier Union Austria. For his new role, Andreas Vitasek chose a motto inspired by Loriot: "A life without sparkling wine is conceivable, but pointless."
